LaVia Rhone has received an advanced diploma from Richmond Community High School, which includes 28 honors classes and 4 advanced placement courses. She has been on the Honor Roll for all 4 years and has a 4.5 GPA.
LaVia is a leader. She has served as Community Council Club Vice-Mayor (11), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Treasurer (11), Senior Class President (12), School Board Student Representative (11), VCU Dental Scholars Program participant, and Sigma Gamma Rho Debutante (11).
LaVia’s community service efforts include tutoring and mentoring students at Westower Community Center. She also served on various community projects for Metro Teens of YMCA. She participated on the Huguenot High School Junior Varsity and Varsity Cheerleading teams (9, 10, 11); and she was a member of the Thomas Jefferson High School Marching Band (12). Twice she won regional FBLA contests by placing 3rd in Digital Video Production (10) and 1st in Business Calculations (11).
LaVia aspires to make significant contributions to modern orthodontics. LaVia wore braces for five years and after that experience, she became interested in discovering a new style of orthodontics that could prove to be less time-consuming, more cost-beneficial, and less detrimental to her patients. After holding a VCU internship as a Chemistry Lab Assistant (40 hours per week), LaVia plans to attend Virginia Commonwealth University in the fall and major in Biology/Pre-Dentistry with the goal of becoming an orthodontist. |
